I'm not sure if it was because I grew up in a high demand religion, or simply that I read too many adventure books as a child, but 5 years ago my life changed overnight.

 

In 2021 I was studying BioMed at a religious college while working a local zip line. I had just returned from a two year proselytizing mission trip for my church, and I was struggling very heavily with my mental health since the "correct path" I had always been taught didn't seem to be bringing me the happiness I was promised. One day, on the drive home from a particularly hard day at work I had an epiphany:

Nobody is going to make my life what I want it to be except myself. 

​

Within the course of a week I dropped out of school, broke up with my partner, left the religious community I had dedicated 21 years of my life to, and moved into my car to see what the outside world had to offer.

 

Up until this point in my life I had never had a friend outside of the religion, never attended a non-secular party, and I had absolutely no clue how to make decisions for myself. The only thing I knew was the fact that there had to be something more for me out there. So I just drove.

It didn't take long before the silence of solo travel started to take it's toll on me. I often would spend an entire day having mind blowing, brand new experiences only to lay down at night and be reminded of the fact that I had a total of zero people to talk about my adventures with.

​

So I started posting. 

​

I shared all of the National Parks I was seeing for the first time. I shared my daily life as a solo traveler living out of a car. I shared new hobbies I was discovering, friends I was making, and growth I was having. Within the span of 6 months content creation became my full time job.

​

Fast forward 5 years to the present day and I have absolutely no regrets. I've accomplished things my younger self wouldn't even be able to dream of. Things like cycling unsupported 1,200km across Patagonia, trekking in the Andes at 50% oxygen, and spending 3 days in the desert with no food, water, or phone. I've swam in the Amazon, fallen in (and out) of love, and lived in a car, ambulance, and 70s bus.

The best part is that I've been able to call these experiences "work". Throughout these adventures I've had the opportunity to work with some of my favorite brands on projects ranging from small scale UGC, to huge campaigns with the ad spend behind my videos reaching into the multiple hundreds of thousands. I invested into myself and learned cinematography, and am very much enjoying continually developing my skill and creativity. (I also really enjoying new camera gear, so thats a plus too haha).
